Custom Logo Design for a Copyediting Business
Christine, the founder of Your Editing Friend, asked me to create a custom logo design and mini brand identity for her copyediting business. Christine and I have known each other for some time, and she’s been invaluable in helping with my content and editing since I started my graphic design business. What I love about working with her is her patience — she’ll stick with me until I’m truly satisfied with how my message sounds. She also provides thoughtful word suggestions that elevate my work and has helped increase my monthly blog readership to nearly 30,000 people (per Squarespace site analytics).
To start our project, Christine completed a brand questionnaire, which offered insights into her brand’s vision and personality. Reviewing her responses, I loved the concept behind her brand name, Your Editing Friend, which perfectly reflects her warm and supportive approach to editing.
Brand story
Christine’s journey into copyediting began in 1992 as marketing manager for her family’s small business. Throughout her career in marketing, she noticed that people, no matter the industry, appreciate crisp, clear writing. To develop her writing skills, she volunteered for writing and editing positions at various organizations while studying grammar and editing techniques through courses, books, and conferences. Christine now draws on her knowledge of marketing and editing to create clear, professional writing that resonates with the target audience.
Your Editing Friend focuses on helping B2B small businesses develop a professional brand presence by editing and refining rough drafts to ensure they’re grammatically correct, concise, and effective.

Creative direction
Creating a custom visual brand identity design begins with a clear strategy—this is a critical step that shapes the logo design process. Christine had already established a solid foundation for her copyediting business, and she shared a detailed vision of the look she was hoping to achieve. Together, we held a “clarity session” to ensure we were aligned on the visual direction.
Brand style
Most business owners come into the logo design process with a general vision, and Christine was no different. To help her bring these ideas into focus, I suggested she create a Pinterest mood board. Visual references often make it easier to express abstract ideas, especially when describing a brand’s style. After Christine gathered the images that she felt best represented her brand’s tone, I noticed her preferences leaned toward warm, friendly visuals, perfectly matching her brand personality.
To further capture the brand’s essence, I combined Christine’s images with others that I felt resonated with her brand’s values; together we collected 155 pins. From these pins, I created two curated mood boards to reflect the brand’s warm, approachable brand identity and shared them with Christine. This mood board process was key in helping us solidify the brand’s visual consistency.
Custom logo design
Once we established a cohesive vision, I began sketching logo concepts. Your Editing Friend offers thoughtful editing services for B2B clients, ensuring that content is clear, concise, and professional. Christine’s brand is grounded in a warm, collaborative approach that feels like teamwork among friends. Her logo needed to reflect this supportive atmosphere.
In designing the logo, I incorporated a wavy line symbolizing boldface—a mark familiar to those used in editing—to visually represent her services. For those less familiar with this mark, I suggested an animated logo option to help draw attention and visually explain its significance. I chose friendly, rounded fonts to create a warm, approachable feel, and styled the text “Your Editing” in a curved, connected shape to symbolize connection and teamwork. At the center, a sunbeam represents the shared goal of achieving success together.
Brand style guide and brand board
To maintain visual consistency across all brand materials, I created a brand style guide and brand board, showcasing the logo variations, color palette, typography, and imagery. Christine and her team can now create marketing collateral that speaks directly to her ideal audience while staying visually aligned with her brand’s personality.
Because she offers writing services, typography is vital to connecting with her audience. I carefully selected typefaces that align with her brand personality while ensuring they are both readable and versatile.
Conclusion
Participating in the custom logo design for Your Editing Friend was a collaborative and rewarding journey. Christine’s clear vision, along with her commitment to creating a friendly, professional brand, made the logo design process a joy. With a custom logo design and visual brand identity that authentically represents Your Editing Friend, Christine is well-prepared to connect with her clients, reinforce her professional presence, and continue growing her small business.
